2008 BMW Championship
The BMW Championship is the third of four FedExCup playoff events on the PGA Tour. It sees the season’s top 70 FedExCup points leaders compete to secure entry to the Tour Championship, in contention for the FedExCup – the championship trophy for the PGA Tour season. For details of how players qualify for the FedExCup playoffs, see BMW Championship format.
The first BMW Championship was played in 2007. It replaced the Western Open, which was the third oldest of all PGA Tour golf events, running right from 1899 up to 2006. Like the Western Open, the BMW Championship is administered by the Western Golf Association.
Each year, the BMW Championship is due to rotate to one of three courses in the Upper Midwest, including Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Illinois, the Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri and the Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana.
The 2007 BMW Championship was won by Tiger Woods at the Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. Woods went on to win the Tour Championship to secure the first-ever FedEx Cup trophy.
